Grow Bags

Grow bags (also known as Fabric pots) are used to grow plants. These bags are either made of fabric or flexible plastic.

Grow bags made from fabric are considered superior. The porous nature of the grow bags allows the free circulation of air.

Grow bags keep the plants cool in summer and warm in winter helps the plants to grow better.

Traditional pots are susceptible to temperature shock in warmer weather due to the surface absorbing more heat.

As there are no holes under the bag unlike pots, manure and soil don’t get drained. Also, entry of the insect through the holes is restricted.

Grow bags come in various heights and widths that give you an option to accommodate almost any size plant. You can grow Vegetables, Fruits, and Herbs.

Grow bags advantages

There are multiple advantages of Grow bags over traditional pots.

Root Pruning: As the root of a plant hits the edge of the bag, the plant will automatically prune the roots. This pruning helps to build stronger roots.

In the case of plants growing in pots, root circling happens. This circling restricts the movement of water and nutrients to the leaves.

Temperature control: It will not overheat roots and keeps the plant cool in summer.

Easy to water: Excess water will percolate the fabric material

Winter Storage: Can be cleaned, folded, and stored in a small space when not in use.

Transplanting: Can be moved to larger grow bags without damaging the roots.

Shift the plants: Easy to move plants to the most desirable growing locations.

Grow bags disadvantages

You will need to water more frequently than the regular pots as the soil gets dried up quickly. So, there is a risk of under-watering the plants.

Gophers or groundhog or squirrel or mouse can chew through grow bags. It does not happen every time but, the possibility is there.

All the grow bags quality will not be the same. They may last for 1 to 10 years or more. It depends on the brand or the quality of the material used. With proper maintenance, you can extend the lifespan of grow bag.
